Resilience Fuels Resurgence

Resilience Fuels Resurgence

Nicole Malachowski |

January starts with fresh ambition, but by February, the real challenge sets in: staying the course. Resolutions fade, motivation dips, and adversity tests our commitment. This is where resilience makes the difference between giving up and rising up.

Resilience isn’t just about bouncing back—it’s about rising stronger, wiser, and more capable. It’s what turns setbacks into stepping stones and adversity into advantage. Resurgence happens when we refuse to let obstacles define us. It’s about pressing forward, even when the path changes.

Three Concrete Ways to Build Your Resurgence

1.    Reframe the Setback.
When the Air Force grounded me due to illness, I could’ve let that be the end of my career. Instead, I asked, What’s next? Resurgence starts when you shift from “Why me?” to “What now?”

2.    Lean into Resourcefulness.
Fighter pilots don’t panic when plans fall apart—we pivot. You may need to adjust your goals, change your methods, or build new skills. Be flexible. Be strategic. Keep moving forward.

3.    Turn Failure into Fuel.
Every challenge carries a lesson—find it. When the Wright brothers failed with their early planes, they didn’t quit; they refined. Your setbacks are just data points for your comeback.

A setback is a setup for a comeback.
